(Winchester, In) The O’Reilly USA Mods along with the
American Modified Series invaded the world’s fast half mile
the Winchester Speedway for the first annual Big One.
Thirty four Modifieds were on hand to battle it out for 28
starting spots in the 50 lap feature. Each traveling series
would get a 25 lap features to lock in twelve spots in to
the main event from each feature. Mike Zordon was quick
time for the O’Reilly USA Modifieds with a lap time of
16.790 at an average speed of 107.207 MPH. Greg Stapleton
was quick time for the American Modified Series with a lap
of 16.637 at an average speed of 108.193. The American
Modified Series 25 lap feature was the first event on the
track. Smokin’ Bud Perry of the famous Ohio Posse dominated
the first race of the evening picking up the AMS Feature win
over Greg Stapleton, Mike Carroll, Brian Nester, Don Skaggs,
Steve Foster, Chad Poole, Ross Klingelhofer, Gary Eaton, and
Brad Yelton rounding out the top ten.
The O’Reilly USA Modified feature saw Herb
Johnson edge Mike Zordon off the
line to take the early lead and never look back take his
first O’Reilly USA Modified Feature win of the year over
Zordan, Damon Breedlove, Kyle Jones, Scott Tomasik, Scott
Coe, Joe Axsom, Jeff Weston, Jonathon Martin, and John Long
rounding out the top 10. The AMS won the coin flip and
picked the out side lane for the 50 lap feature. The USA
Modifieds got to draw the inversion which was five. The
feature would see a 50 lap battle between two Ohio Posse
members Smokin’ Bud Perry and Flyin’ Brian Nester. Bud
Perry ripped off the fastest lap of the feature out all the
cars, but was unable to get by Brian for the win. Brian
picked up his second win of the year at the Winchester
Speedway by out dueling Perry for the win with Mike Carroll,
Greg Stapleton, Kyle Jones, Damon Breedlove, Mike Zordon,
Herb Johnson, Brad Yelton, Joe Axsom, John Long, Ross
Klingelhofer, Dan Frazier, Terri Popielarz, and Danny Potter
rounding out the top 15 spots.
The O’Reilly USA Modifieds will next be in
action with a double header weekend with Friday, August 8th
stop at the Bearfeild Speedway and Saturday, August 9th
at the O’Reilly Raceway Park. Please check out
