MIKE CARROLL WINS

USA “MEMORIAL 50” AT ORP

08.09.08…Clermont, IN…It was “UAW Night” at the O’Reilly Raceway Park at Indy last Saturday Night  and the race fans were ready for some good ole Mod racing….. and that is just what they got! A light field of USA Mods were on hand at ORP, following a crash fest the night before at Baer Field Speedway that saw two Mods on the roll backs and headed to there builder’s frame rack for major repairs. At ORP the evening would start off with practice that ended Herb Johnson night early with engine problems. Qualifying would find the very last qualifier, Harold Scott fast with a 23.770 as the field was now set for racing. It would be Scott again in the Fast Dash holding off local Scotty Tomasik. The heat would also find local female USA Driver, Terri Popielarz starting from the pole. Jeff Weston would start outside front row; get the jump at the green and never look back to take the USA Fast Heat. With the preliminary races in the books, the draw would form the starting order of the Mike Kline / Nick Feltes “Memorial 50” “Young Gun” Nick Diano would start from the pole, along with Ohio Veteran Mike Carroll outside, followed by Scotty Tomasik and Harold Scott. This group would lead the field of “Thundering Mods” into the first corner, to start the race out. It would not be long for trouble to brew as Carroll charged into the lead with Scott in hot pursuit Diano would make contact with Scott slicing his left front tire causing a chain reaction crash that blocked turn three and brought out the red flag. When the smoke cleared, current USA Points Leader Kyle Jones, along with Don Skaggs, Cory Setser, Darin Bowman, and Curtis Unrue were all done for the day. On the re-start Carroll would once again charge to the lead with Harold Scott having to make a run from the tail. After 50 hard laps of racing Mike Carroll would hold on to take the win over Scotty Tomasik, Tim Burkett, Scott Coe and Harold Scott. The O’Reilly USA Modified Series will next be in action at Kalamazoo Speedway for the “King of the Mods” August 23, 2008 For more info go to www.usamodifieds.com or www.kalamazoospeedway.com
