Veteran Steve Christman wins season opener for the O’Reilly USA Modified
Series
April 25, 2009
The
O’Reilly USA Modified Series opened their 2009 season at
Toledo Speedway, along with the ASA Late Model North
Division. 30 cars practiced on Fri. & Sat., trying to make
the 24 car starting field. Second generation driver, Travis
Eddy, set fast time with a lap of 16.86 on the fast half
mile. Eddy also picked up the $250.00 fast time award,
presented by Racestatus.com. When the field was set, it was
Steve Christman & Tony Dager on the front row. Going down
the backstretch on lap 1, Tim Burkett developed a problem.
Bunching up the field behind him, it sent Brad Springer,
Herb Johnson and Tim Burkett hard in to the wall. When
racing resumed, it was Christman leading with Nick Diano &
Scott Tomasik making their way through the field. On lap 30,
Dager’s car lost power. When the green flag flew again, it
was Cory Setser in 2nd , Jeff Amsdell in 3rd
, Nick Diano in 4th . Diano was able to get around Setser,
but was unable to catch Christman for the checkered flag.
